Kudos-Spotlight on noteworthy achievements

Century 21: Beverly Delatte and Rene McLin of Century 21 Investment Realty recently received the company’s coveted Centurion Team Award.

Chris Gray: Hammond native singer Chris Gray, who is also a Navy veteran, recently returned from a tour with Armed Forces Entertainment, where he entertained troops in Qatar, Djibouti, Bahrain, Iraq and Kuwait. The artist is seeing a steady increase in sales from his album, “From Where I Am” which has been named the #1 album in Holland. The title cut is #20 on the Country Music Chart in the Netherlands. Gray is enjoying success close to home as well, as he has opened for artists such as George Strait, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride and The Dixie Chicks.

Exchange Club: The members of the St. Tammany Exchange Club recently honored three local heroes for their work as first responders after Hurricane Katrina, as well as for their outstanding work every day in protecting our community and citizens. Pictured are Club President Roy Lilley, Shane Jenkins of the Covington Fire Department, Detective Vincent Liberto of the Mandeville Police Department, Trooper Greg Vogt of the La. State Police Troop L and Captain Tim Lentz of the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Department.

The club also honored several high school students as “Students of the Year.” They were chosen based on their outstanding qualities in the areas of leadership, academics, athletics, character and service to the community. Southeastern Top Students: Southeastern Louisiana University President Randy Moffett, far left, and University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors member Andre Coudrain, far right, congratulate the recipients of Southeastern’s President’s Medal for Academic Excellence at the university’s spring commencement May 13. Pat Brister: The full U.S. Senate voted in May to officially confirm Pat Brister’s Ambassadorship to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. Brister is also the Vice Chairman of the St. Tammany Parish Council.

Janey Miller-Schmidt: Mandeville resident and past commodore of the Pontchartrain Yacht Club Janet Miller-Schmidt has been elected Commodore of the Gulf Yachting Association, which encompasses 33 yacht clubs. She is the first woman to be elected to this position in the GYA’s 105-year history, and the first to have to deal with rebuilding the 14 clubs along the coast that were destroyed by Katrina.

ZTA: Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity officially granted the ZTA Northshore Alumni Chapter its charter during ceremonies at Louisiana Zeta Day in Kenner. Pictured are, ZTA District President Helen Fish, Chapter President Leanne Deibel and Chapter Vice President of Programming Emily Sontag.

Marcia Holmes: Artist Marcia Holmes recently received awards from The Pastel Journal. Her painting “Piazza San Marco” (which appeared on IN’s Feb/March 2004 cover) won an Honorable Mention in landscapes and “Water Lilies II” won an Honorable Mention in abstracts. The journal is the leading publication devoted to pastel artists of all skill levels. Every year, 100 of the top pastel painters are chosen from around the world.

Jim Pearse: Jim Pearse, of Covington, was recently named President and General Manager of Zatarains. Congratulations!

St. Paul Awards Ceremony: Alex Richard and Brian Logarbo were presented the Superior Achievement Awards by St. Paul’s Principal Brother Raymond Bullard at the school’s Student Awards Ceremony. The awards were given to the students who have achieved the highest overall combination of service and academic excellence on his level, as voted by teachers.

St. Tammany Parish Hospital: Solucient, the market leader in healthcare information products, singled out St. Tammany Parish Hospital by awarding the hospital the 2006 Solucient Insight Award for Overall Performance. The hospital was rated above all other honorees for clinical, operational, planning and marketing, and professional services. The hospital also was recognized by VHA, Inc., a national healthcare alliance, for its excellence as an employer. STPH was one of only five hospitals nationwide to earn the 2006 VHA Leadership Award for Operational Excellence.
