Gone Fishin'

by Lori Murphy

The summer at Inside Northside was anything but relaxing. In five months, we produced four publications for outside organizations in addition to our three regular IN issues! It’s no wonder that all of us here are seeking ways to bring more downtime and less stress into our all-too-busy-lives—especially as we anticipate the approaching holidays. (See Stacey’s letter on pg. 15.)

Andre Cuartas offers us helpful insights on managing stress and loss in her article on pg. 105. Take time to reflect on the beautiful quote at the end. As for me, I’m taking her advice by trying to “accept tranquility,” “laugh out loud,” “have fun” and “stay open to wonder.” (I thought about adding “live fully,” but my interpretation of that is what got me to where I am!)

I think I’m off to a good start. I recently went fishing with my husband for the first time since before we were married. As you can see, it was very relaxing! So, if I’m “unavailable” at the office, and my cell phone is turned off, just know that I’ve hung out the gone fishin’ sign again!

p.s. I hope your holidays are happy, re-energizing—and stress-free! Stay open to wonder! That shouldn’t be hard to do during this wonder-filled time of the year.
