It would seem that the most appropriate time to give thanks in this space would be in November, but after witnessing this mammoth issue come together—our largest ever!—I am left with an overwhelming sense of gratitude, as there are so many who helped to make this book a success. For starters, I must thank the entire crew who helped to put together “The Ladies of Polo” (page 48). The full-blown fashion shoot, a first for IN, involved coordinating nine ladies, two polo players, four dress boutiques, four jewelers and a handful of hairdressers and makeup artists. The task seemed virtually overwhelming until we were blessed by an emerging talented duo: stylist Lauren Lagarde and photographer Blair Hollyfield. The two took the reins and were indispensable in organizing the full-day shoot. I’ve heard it said that gratitude is merely the secret hope of further favors. I hope all those involved in this project heed those words!

I also developed a newfound sense of thankfulness as we searched for stories to commemorate our area’s one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Though the storm brought distinct challenges and hardships, we felt it important to instead relate tales of growth and new beginnings throughout the northshore community—and we were overwhelmed with the possibilities. It’s inspiring to learn how so many around us have taken this unprecedented time in history to define their destiny and make their mark in the world.

And finally, I must give thanks to you, our readers. From the incredible turnout we had at our fifth anniversary party this summer to the multitude of responses we received from our Reader Survey, I have never felt so tuned in to our readership. Your overwhelming support made me realize that though I may spend my days assembling the info you read here, it is you who truly brings these pages to life.
