Children’s Hospital: Having a Ball for Our Kids
Last year, Children’s Hospital treated more than 3,300 children from St. Tammany Parish alone. That’s at least 3,300 reasons for northshore residents to support the hospital and the 27th annual Sugarplum Ball, its largest fundraiser, on Saturday, April 12.
Children’s Hospital, a 201-bed not-for-profit medical center, is the only full-service hospital exclusively for children in Louisiana and the Gulf South. It offers area children from birth to 21 years access to healthcare in over 40 subspecialties from nearly 400 physicians.
Todd M. Hornbeck, CEO of Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc., one of the ball’s largest northshore sponsors, is proud of the firm’s support of Children’s Hospital. He says, “Hornbeck is keenly interested in enhancing the quality of life for our employees and their families. A strong Children’s Hospital serves that purpose, and we are proud to support this regional pediatric medical center.”
The St. Tammany Memorial Cancer Fund also provides significant support, stating, “It is an honor to support Children’s Hospital through sponsorship of the Sugarplum Ball. It is our intent to provide donations to organizations whose mission it is to provide health care and support to the children of our community. STMCF thanks Children’s Hospital for their unending efforts to this end.”
Other major donors on the northshore include Haydel’s Bakery; Stewart Title; Superior Energy Services, Inc.; Phelps Dunbar, LLP; Tidewater; Whitney Bank and Ray Woolridge.
Proceeds from this year’s ball will help fund patient care in the hospital’s Cardiac Intensive Care unit. Each year, more than 1,600 patients from throughout the world visit Children’s Hospital’s nationally recognized Heart Center for cardiology services. Renovations are currently underway to create a new 20-bed CICU with 10 private rooms strictly for heart patients.
Each bed space in the new CICU will be equipped for surgical intervention at a moment’s notice, while creating a warm and comforting environment conducive to rest and care.
