Publisher's Note

by Lori Murphy
While preparing this issue, I spent a lot of time on memory lane. I grew up going to Destin every year. Always the same group of families. Tanning by the pool, fishing, dinner at Captain Dave's and the venerable Green Knight that welcomed you to the beach. If you are like me, your heart will sink when you see the picture on page 44. Of course, I knew it was gone. I just had no idea how far it had fallen. There is, however, a whole host of great new things on the northern Florida coast. We take a look at them in a comprehensive South Walton beach section that begins on page 42. Thanks to everyone who shared their beach stories with us, particularly Floridian Kristen Pope. It is sure to make you get out your calendar and start planning.

In case you haven't heard, the Slidell Area Chamber of Commerce has just named Jamene Dahmer, formerly of Hammond, as their new CEO. Good luck, Jamene! We are expecting great things! We enjoy our working relationship with the northshore chambers. Kathy Stuart, Lacey Toledano and Jamene are three of my all-time favorite women. Their leadership, enthusiasm and charisma make doing business here very exciting. Working together, we have expanded the circulation of this issue to include 5,000 copies for distribution on the southshore. It is an invitation, of sorts. We'd like to encourage New Orleanians to stop by and enjoy some of the special aspects of our northshore communities. So, if you see someone who looks like a visitor ... give them a warm smile and directions to some of our hot spots! It's time to put the top down and enjoy the sunshine.

Have a great spring!
