From the Editor

by Laura Kalnajs
I am thrilled to be the new Managing Editor of Inside Northside. I’ve been a fan of this publication ever since it first made its way into my mailbox a few years ago. It’s always had a place on my coffee table, not only because of the beautiful cover art, but also because I have always found it a handy resource for information on upcoming local events. I’m sure you feel the same.

My husband and I, along with our two children, have lived on the northshore for seven years now. We came from the Washington, D.C. region, but I have also lived in New Jersey, New Hampshire, France, southern California and even Australia. I can honestly say that this area is one of my favorites. The people are so friendly, the schools are great, the housing is affordable and there’s even a small-town feel. And yet, here in the midst of suburbia, you can still find swamps, bayous, rivers and lakes just minutes away – you might be lucky enough to live on one! My neighborhood pond even has its own resident alligator. I love telling that to my friends up north. It makes my life seem exotic. If only the summers were three months shorter and 20 degrees cooler!

Of course, the food and festivals are very high on the list of reasons why I love living in southern Louisiana! If you’re like me, you love to sample all of the restaurants that the northshore has to offer.

You’ll enjoy Sandra Juneau’s article on page 90, which highlights brunch at some local restaurants, complete with terrific recipes to try at home. Also, check out this issue’s special menu guide on page 95. You just might find a new restaurant you want to try.

I would really like to know what you, the reader, want to see in these pages. If you have any suggestions, e-mail me at laura@insidenorthside.com. I’d love to hear from you!
