Artist of the Year

Jean Lajaunie

Jean Lajaunie was recently named the Slidell Art League Artist of the Year. There will be a reception in her honor on Saturday, August 21, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Slidell Art League Gallery in the Train Depot near Olde Towne Slidell.

Jean is a native of New Orleans. She worked in human resources for 25 years, was a dedicated volunteer for HUGS (Hope, Understanding, Giving and Support) and STARC (St. Tammany Association of Retarded Citizens), owned her own frame shop and taught art, all the while entering her own artwork in local and regional competitions.

She retired in 2003 and now devotes herself fulltime to her artwork. She joined the Slidell Art League that same year and was vice president before her current position as president.
