Watch Out for the Birdie!

Randy Roth of Beau Chêne has a great golf story. It’s not a stirring tale of a hole-in-one, but it does involve an unusual birdie.

Roth and 23 of his friends go to Arizona every year on a golf outing. This year, they played at the TPC course in Scottsdale. On one of the holes, he overshot the green, as did many of the other players. Unbeknownst to them, some Canadian geese were nesting nearby. Although the geese were fenced protectively behind tall grass, one mama goose became particularly incensed at the intrusion.

When it was Randy’s turn, the goose stepped it up a notch, squawking and moving her head menacingly. Randy took a couple of swings and missed, his concentration more on the large goose than on the ball. Suddenly, the goose had had enough. She took off after him, showing him an impressive wingspan that, frankly, scared him to death. He threw his club up in the air, and she backed down.

The goose went back to her young. The guys ended up with a golf memory that’s sure to be recounted at many a 19th hole!
