Predictions and Wishes: 2004

I wish: St. Tammany could mint its own money to fix all of our drainage issues.

I predict: The New Orleans Saints will not be in the Superbowl, but a St. Tammany High School football team will be number one in the state.

Kevin Davis
St. Tammany Parish President

I wish: The Bowl Championship Series would be ruled in violation of anti-trust laws, and Tulane would win the national title in football!

I predict: With the economy slowly inching up, and the lack of any clear leader among the Democrats, President Bush will achieve a narrow, but clear, victory in November.

Christian M. M. Brady, Ph.D.
Tulane University

I wish: For a safer world, and a quick and safe return of our troops.
I predict: That a significant amount of eligible teenagers will make good decisions by voting.

Maryanna Broussard
Senior, Slidell High School

I wish: That in this time of world turmoil, all universities will work closely with students to promote greater understanding and tolerance of different cultures as one step to helping achieve a degree of international tranquility.

I predict: The northshore will continue to be the fastest growing area of the state, and will be recognized as a distinct economic region by the State of Louisiana–a move that will improve funding of economic development projects that will benefit the state as a whole.

Dr. Randy Moffett
President,
Southeastern Louisiana University

I wish: That Downtown Covington continues to flourish, and that the old Southern Hotel will rapidly return to commerce and become an anchor of economic vitality for the entire community.

I predict: Downtown Covington will gain a sizeable number of specialty retail stores that will enhance its reputation as a high-end shopping and arts destination.

Marco F. Monoc
Director of Economic Development
City of Covington

I wish: Every St. Tammany resident would enjoy all the wonderful things to do in our community; i.e., state parks, nature trails, beaches, playgrounds, picnic areas, beautiful country drives, galleries, restaurants, bike paths and museums.

I predict: People will start moving back to the southshore when they realize the traffic and flooding is worse on the northshore.
