Dear Lori, I loved the cover of your most recent edition of Inside Northside depicting one of James Michalopoulos’ paintings. The article revealed a little more about Michalopoulos’ connection to our area but was remiss in mentioning that he is part owner of one of our local restaurants in Covington, Étoile. Not only is the food delicious, one can view several of his paintings which are predominantly displayed throughout the restaurant. In fact, Mr. Michalopoulos has done a fantastic job of decorating the place which serves to showcase his talents firsthand. I found the article negligent in mentioning the artist’s northshore connection. After all, isn’t that what Inside Northside is promoting? Russell B. Thanks for your e-mail and for your interest in Inside Northside. Rather than including it in the cover artist feature in our Oct/Nov issue, James’ business interest in Étoile was addressed on pg. 106 in the same issue. Dear Lori, As follow-up to the article about St. Tamanend in your Dec/Jan issue, please find attached a photo depicting the figurehead statue of the USS Delaware situated at the head of the main walkway on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy. This is a bronze replica donated by the USNA Class of 1891. This figurehead has always been known as “Tecumseh.” I would imagine that this is probably a pseudonym for Tamanend. By the way, Tecumseh is known as the “god of 2.5,” which is the passing grade at the academy; at least it was in 1961 when I graduated. Tom J., Cdr. USN (retired) Tom, thanks for sharing a personal note about this northshore legacy. Dear Lori, Thank you so much for including the Charles Dickens Christmas Party in Mandeville in Inside Scoop. The write-up and photograph featured were so greatly appreciated at such a critical time–opening month for Vianne’s Tea Salon and Café! Michael and Kerri B. Thank you for bringing such a wonderful event to Mandeville and our best wishes for your success with Vianne’s! Dear Lori, I would like to obtain information on the guidelines for submitting photographs and/or write-ups. A large Sweet 16 party is being planned for March 2004 at the Castine Center and we would love to have photographs published in your fantastic magazine. Gretchen C. We would be happy to help them celebrate! We encourage our readers to submit photos and event information for inclusion in Inside Scoop (before the event), as well as Inside Peek (after the event). Please forward color or black and white photos with event information to editor@insidenorthside.com or mail to us at P.O. Box 9148, Mandeville 70470. Be sure to include cutline information with all photographs. Congratulations to Thomas DeCorte Jr. of Slidell, winner of the December/January “Find the Hidden Phrase” contest.
