Ellen Bajon

EMB Interiors

For Ellen Bajon, the art of designing interiors just comes naturally. A master at the art of creating a casually elegant atmosphere, Bajon likes to bring the outside in, incorporating deep earthtone colors and natural woods such as heart pine, cypress, cherry and pecan.

She begins her signature styling for a client by selecting a predominately neutral palette and then injecting touches of color in a room to create a more elegant feeling, as opposed to using multitudes of colors and styles. A firm believer in quality rather than quantity, Bajon first establishes classic elements such as furniture pieces and drapery, and then adds accent pieces that are easy to change. Sounds simple, but considering the myriad of decorating choices available today, it pays to have a professional sort out the details.

Schooled in fashion merchandising, Bajon’s educational background includes a number of overlapping studies in color, design and textiles. In 1986, she began her design career in Baton Rouge by working with builders–many of whom, like Bajon, have since moved to the northshore.

Bajon’s eye for color and design was greatly influenced by the legendary A. Hays Town, whom she knows personally. “I grew up with his children and grandchildren,” she says. “I like his style.”

The evidence is certainly reflected in her highly sought-after design skills. “So many of my clients like the West Indies-Southern French styling that has been such a big part of my life since I was young.”

Since moving EMB Interiors to Mandeville 15 years ago, Bajon has established a loyal clientele. She enjoys a substantial amount of repeat business, whether her customers are seeking to build or renovate. With a specialty in residential design, she has done as many as three homes for some of her clients. It’s little wonder; Bajon’s “simply elegant” styling translates to the more dressy-casual style so desired by her clients.

“Our showroom is a sampling of all the things we sell and order, and we encourage potential clients to come in for an introduction to the way we work. We have a full staff of six, as well as other designers on staff. Not only do we sell the best on the market, including several of the top upholstery lines, but we sell it at discounted prices for our contract customers. We travel to market five times per year to hand-pick furniture and accessories for our clients, as well as working with talented artists for commissioned artwork.

Visit the EMB Interiors showroom at 1200 Place in Mandeville, or call 626-1522 to arrange a consultation.
