As I put together this issue’s Scoop listings, it reminded me just how wonderful it is to live in southern Louisiana—and on the northshore, in particular. There is always something fun to do! In February, I can choose to attend a Victorian Valentines workshop, or a concert at Christ Episcopal Church, or dress up and enjoy the fun at the Kids Konnection benefit—see page 54—to name just a few events. March is even busier, with the Bayou Jam Concerts in Slidell, Abita Springs Garage Sale and Chef Soirée! I could go on and on, but you can turn to page 19 for a complete listing.
As a transplant from the East Coast, I love the fact that so many outdoor activities can take place at this time of the year! By the same token, I am still amazed that people here plan outdoor events in August and September, when I am parked firmly in front of an air conditioner! The wide array of activities actually makes my life more difficult. Just looking at my calendar makes me tired! Work is one thing, but the day just begins when the kids get home from school! With soccer and choir rehearsals and concerts, church activities, homework and teen social events, my husband and I barely have time to fit in any parties, fundraisers, art openings, etc. that we want to attend. But we do our best. Something’s gotta give, and it’s usually housework! I’ve given up on trying to keep a clean house. I try not to let the big balls of dog fur and strange growths in the bathtub worry me. After all, Scoop lists beaucoup fun activities in the next two months, and darn it, I’m going to enjoy myself!! Laura Jones of Ponchatoula guessed correctly that there were 21 Fleurs de Lis on our December/January cover. Congratulations! Copyright 2005, M&L Publishing, all rights reserved. |
