If you’re
into people watching, we are now in high season. Watch them stand passively
by until the last moment when they wildly wave and shout. Watch seasoned
veterans who still keep their eyes glued to the ground looking for doubloons.
And don’t forget the children twisting their bodies within the confines
of the ladder box to see the coming floats. Last, but not least, my favorite
- the band dancers. In this issue we’ve given you plenty to watch
for during this carnival season. See page 49 for a listing of northshore
parades.
While you’re in the wild experience mode, check out page 42 for our interview with a local engineer who went “reality TV.” I’m not sure how publishing skills would have helped in a challenge race - but I think it would be a blast to try! Did you realize that we weren’t a part of the Louisiana Purchase? I didn’t. (Apologies to my high school and college teachers!) Anne Gilbert explains it all in her piece on the Florida Parishes, page 56. And, speaking of history, St. Scholastica is celebrating 100 years of service! We take a look back on page 38. They will celebrate with a very special Falaya Fling at the Castine Center on March 29th. Happy Hearts Day!
