“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find
the harder I work, the more I have of it.”
– Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)
Inside Northside is happy to highlight women business leaders from across the northshore. They are as diverse as their interests, but still alike in many ways. The common drive towards being the best at what they do is unmistakable, and we honor them for that. These are their stories. Hopefully, you will find some insight into what makes them tick—what makes them successful. I can assure you, it isn’t luck!
As Jefferson says, it is the effort that brings the luck, and these ladies know it. Their success is founded on—and grounded in—setting high goals, preparing well, sacrificing, self-discipline, determination and, yes, plenty of hard work.
Best of all, these leaders have mastered the trick of making that hard work look easy and fun. Every successful businessperson I know has excelled because they have a real passion for what they do. These women are no exception. Never bogged down by a “job,” they revel in the rewards of doing something that brings great satisfaction. They have made their own luck and continue to build on it every day. That description certainly fits the mother-daughter duos we talked to in honor of Mother’s Day this year. Artists all, they are passing down gifts from generation to generation.
To paraphrase a cliché, it takes a community to cultivate successful leaders. We can all be proud of, and grateful for, the northshore’s three leadership programs. We hope the article will inspire you to find your perfect candidate for the 2008 classes.
Just don’t be surprised if it’s a woman!
